Choosing a Destination for a Full cPanel Backup Print

  • backup, ftp, scp, storage

Current cPanel backup interfaces can offer several destinations for a manually generated full account backup.

  • Home Directory: stores the archive inside the cPanel account so it can be downloaded later through File Manager, SSH, or the backup interface.
  • Remote FTP Server: sends the backup to an FTP destination.
  • Remote FTP Server (passive mode): uses passive FTP for the transfer.
  • Secure Copy (SCP): transfers the backup through SCP when available.

Remote destinations are intended for users who understand the remote server credentials and network requirements. For a simple manual backup, Home Directory followed by downloading the file to another storage location is usually easier to verify.
