Removing a domain from cPanel removes its web-server virtual-host and DNS entries, but current cPanel documentation states that the domain's directory and contents remain on the server.

Before removal

  • Create a current backup.
  • Confirm the exact domain being removed.
  • Review its website files and email usage.
  • Remember that the Main Domain cannot be removed from the Domains interface.
  1. Open cPanel → Domains → Domains.
  2. Click Manage for the domain.
  3. Click Remove Domain.
  4. Confirm the removal.

If the removed domain had cPanel email accounts, those mailboxes disappear from the Email Accounts interface while the domain is absent, but their mail folders remain. Re-adding the domain can make those accounts visible again.
