Keeping WordPress core, plugins, and themes current is an important part of maintaining a secure and reliable website.
- Open cPanel → Domains → WP Toolkit.
- Locate the website and review its update status.
- Use Check updates when you want WP Toolkit to request a fresh update check.
- Open the list of available updates and select the components you want to update.
- Create a backup or restore point when appropriate and when the option is offered.
- Start the update.
- Afterward, test the public website and important functionality.
Before a major update
- Maintain a current backup.
- Review compatibility for important plugins and the active theme.
- Avoid making several unrelated major changes at the same time.
- Use a staging copy for major changes when staging is available.
If an update causes a problem, first identify what changed. A restore point, backup, or temporary plugin/theme deactivation may be more appropriate than reinstalling WordPress.
