Every cPanel account has a system user email account created with the hosting account. Its account name is based on the cPanel username and Main Domain, and it is different from the normal mailboxes you create in Email Accounts.
Important differences
- The system user mailbox cannot be renamed or deleted.
- You cannot assign it a normal mailbox quota.
- Its credentials are tied to the cPanel account credentials.
- cPanel recommends creating a separate normal email account for everyday email use.
The system user account can receive unrouted/default-address mail depending on the domain's Default Address configuration. A domain-specific default address is configured separately in cPanel → Email → Default Address.
Reviewing the mailbox
From Email Accounts, filter for the system user account when needed and use its available management actions to check mail, free storage, or manage the default-address behavior.
Do not confuse addresses. The cPanel system user email account, a domain's catch-all/default address, and a normal mailbox are related email concepts but are not the same thing.
