BoxTrapper is an optional cPanel challenge-response spam filter. When enabled, messages from unknown senders can be held until the sender completes a verification step.

Feature availability: BoxTrapper may be disabled in the cPanel feature list and therefore may not appear on every account.

Enable BoxTrapper

  1. Open cPanel → Email → BoxTrapper.
  2. Choose Manage for the mailbox.
  3. Select Enable.
  4. Review the configuration, whitelist, blacklist, ignore list, queue, and verification-message options before relying on it for production mail.

BoxTrapper automatically whitelists addresses to which you send mail when automatic whitelisting is enabled. Messages in the verification queue can be reviewed and, where appropriate, whitelisted and delivered.

Consider normal correspondence patterns. Challenge-response systems can interfere with automated senders, mailing lists, transactional systems, and services that cannot answer a verification message. cPanel also notes that using BoxTrapper and SpamAssassin together can produce interaction issues.
