How Plus Addressing Works in cPanel Email Print

  • email, filters, organization, plus-addressing
  • 0

Plus addressing, also called subaddressing, lets a mailbox receive variations of its normal address by adding +text after the username.

For example, name@example.com can receive mail sent to name+orders@example.com.

Folder behavior

cPanel can automatically create a folder that matches the text after the plus sign. If automatic folder creation is disabled and the folder does not already exist, the message is delivered to the inbox instead.

Common uses

  • Organize registrations or newsletters.
  • Identify which address variation was used.
  • Create filtering workflows without creating another mailbox.

Plus addressing is different from a wildcard redirect or forwarder.
