A hotlink occurs when another website embeds a file from your site and your server supplies that file to their visitors. This can consume bandwidth without sending visitors to your site.
cPanel's Hotlink Protection can restrict which referring sites may load selected file types. It can also allow direct requests or redirect blocked requests depending on the configuration.
Plan the allowed-domain list carefully so your own domains and subdomains continue to load required assets.
