The newest backup is not always the correct backup. Choose a recovery point based on when the unwanted change or corruption occurred.
If a file was damaged at 3:00 PM, a backup created at 4:00 PM may already contain the damage. A backup from before the incident is more useful.
When the exact time is uncertain, restore the smallest possible component first and verify the result. Preserve current data so you can compare versions instead of repeatedly overwriting the same live content.
