Understanding Backup Retention Without Assuming a Fixed Schedule Print

cPanel does not give every hosting account a universal backup-retention schedule. Server administrators configure which scheduled backups are retained and where they are stored.

Because retention is configuration-dependent, avoid writing recovery plans around assumptions such as “there will always be seven daily copies.” Instead, check the actual backup dates presented by cPanel and keep your own copy when a particular recovery point matters.

Manual backups stored in the account also remain there until they are removed, so they can consume quota even though they are not part of the server's automatic retention policy.
