WP Toolkit can control the WordPress setting that asks search engines whether a site should be indexed.

  1. Open cPanel → Domains → WP Toolkit.
  2. Find the website.
  3. Locate Search engine indexing.
  4. Turn indexing off for a staging, development, or temporary copy.
  5. Turn indexing on when the production website is ready to be discoverable.
This is not access control. The setting is a request to search engines. It does not prevent someone from visiting the website directly and does not guarantee immediate removal of pages already indexed.

For a staging site, a stronger combination is to disable search-engine indexing and enable password protection.
