WP Toolkit can place an additional username and password in front of a WordPress website so visitors must authenticate before viewing it.
- Open cPanel → Domains → WP Toolkit.
- Find the website.
- Turn Password Protection on.
- Set or generate the access credentials.
- Test the website in a private/incognito browser window.
Password protection is useful for staging sites, development sites, temporary demos, and other websites that should not be publicly accessible.
These credentials are separate from the WordPress administrator username and password. Password protection controls access to the website itself; WordPress credentials control access to the WordPress Dashboard.
When the site is ready to be public, return to WP Toolkit and turn password protection off.
