How to Configure Email Routing for a Domain Print

Email Routing tells cPanel whether a domain's incoming mail should be handled locally or by another mail server.

  1. Open cPanel → Email → Email Routing.
  2. Select the domain.
  3. Review the current routing choice.
  4. Use automatic detection unless you have a specific reason to choose a manual route.
  5. Save the change if you intentionally alter it.
Important: Incorrect routing can make mail appear to disappear or be delivered to the wrong server. If the domain uses an external mail service, its MX records and routing choice must agree with that design.

Changing email routing does not by itself create or correct the required external DNS records.
