A hosting account can contain several different usernames and passwords. Changing one does not automatically change the others.
- cPanel account credentials control access to cPanel and may also identify the main system account.
- Email credentials belong to individual mailboxes.
- FTP credentials belong to FTP accounts, while the primary system account may also be used for supported file-transfer methods.
- Database credentials belong to MySQL or MariaDB database users.
- Application credentials such as WordPress administrator logins are stored and managed by the application.
Use unique, strong passwords and record which service each credential belongs to. This prevents an unnecessary password change in one system from breaking a different service.
