Use this checklist before a significant domain or DNS change:

  • Confirm the exact domain and authoritative DNS provider.
  • Record the current nameservers.
  • Save the current DNS records, especially custom MX, TXT, SRV, CAA, and verification records.
  • Check whether DNSSEC is active and record its DS/key state.
  • Know the current TTLs and allow enough time for caches.
  • For document-root or domain removal changes, create a current hosting backup.
  • Change one logical component at a time when possible.
  • After the change, test web, email, and any third-party services that depend on DNS.

Good change records make troubleshooting much faster if the new configuration does not behave as expected.
