cPanel can display several certificate types in SSL/TLS Status.

  • AutoSSL DV Certificate — a domain-validated certificate provisioned through AutoSSL.
  • DV Certificate — validates control of the domain.
  • OV Certificate — includes organizational validation performed by the certificate authority.
  • EV Certificate — uses extended validation requirements from the certificate authority.
  • Self-Signed — signed by the server or certificate owner rather than a public certificate authority.

For ordinary public websites, a trusted CA-issued certificate is appropriate. The browser's trust indicator does not mean a website's content or business practices have been independently verified.
